Bristol City School Board Offices

After considering many options for a new home for its central offices, the Bristol Virginia School Board chose to adapt an old building supply warehouse owned by the City of Bristol.  The 36,000 square foot, two-story building is across the street from City Hall and close to downtown Bristol.

The design process began with a comprehensive programming effort in which all central office staff participated. The selected concept houses the maintenance department on the lower level and all other offices and the boardroom on the upper level.

The renovations were designed to satisfy the requirements of the National Park Service for the Rehabilitation of Historic Buildings. Historic tax credits were used to help finance the project, which preserves the historic fabric of the building, including windows and the heavy timber structure.  The completed project, while satisfying the programmatic need for private office space, also retains the lofty, open feel of the original warehouse spaces.
